Facebook's New Safety Feature To Notify Friends During An Emergency

Facebook announced another feature called Safety Check to their already growing list of new features! Safety Check lets friends & family know you're safe after a natural disaster has occurred. On the occurrence of such an event, Facebook will send you a message asking if you're OK.

The focus is to let people use Facebook to check on their loved ones and get updates. It is in a crisis and an emergency situation where communication is most critical both for people in the affected zone and for their friends and families anxious to know where their loved ones are.
