Sajavat

Sangitha Aanand, of the decor blog, Sajavat takes us through her -journey - what started as a hobby later took the shape of full-time passion.

She started off with decorating her own room with simple hacks and tricks, but it soon bloomed into something much bigger. Along with her journey, Sangitha shares her trip and tricks to grow as a blogger.

Looking back, where did it all begin?

Decorating and styling spaces started as a necessity in my teens and later years, as I had a room to maintain for myself and this slowly got converted into a passion, as I moved into my own house after marriage. I found immense joy and satisfaction in converting my house to home.

And then the blog came along… Sajavat is a design, décor and art blog conceptualized in 2008. Initially, it was just nook and corners of my home that I would post on the blog or artwork that I had done in my spare time. Slowly and steadily, the blog gained momentum and then I also got the opportunity to collaborate and work for some of the major design and décor players in the market. The story still continues…

Tomorrow being Valentine's day, couldn't help but remember how we fell in love 5 years ago! If you are getting carried away by my opening line don't be! Am talking about how both of us as a couple fell in love with our current ' HOME' five years ago. It was as you say falling in love... Slowly, bare walls got a transformation, corners were beautified, rooms got a makeover and the house changed into a home. All this while, there have been many learnings, decor ideas gone wrong and the mirror in the bedroom that you now see is part of one such learning. I have talked about this in my recent blog. Shall post the link soon! But, meanwhile tell me what is your idea of Valentine's day? I would love to hear from you. For us it is spending more time with each other that matters the most! #home #decorscene #currentmood #currenthomeview #mirrors #valentines #bedroom #housetohome #interiors #interiorstylingblog #stylingspaces #sajavatdecorblog

What's in the name?

Since the blog is all about styling spaces, nothing could have said it better than ‘SAJAVAT which means decorating in Hindi.

What is your USP in this cluttered space? How does your content give you an edge?

My decorating style has always been very simple. I try to enhance my place using stuff I already have. That doesn’t necessarily mean, am a minimalist but yes, am not an impulse buyer or a hoarder and in that sense, I encourage my followers to do the same. Have a clean, uncluttered home and give your own personal touch to your space.

What you do is what you believe in and finally, that reflects across as well!

So, I guess the simplicity shows in the stuff that I post and the audience is able to connect with it better.

Please take us through your content creation process. How do you stay relevant and relatable?

Being a décor blogger, Sajavat caters to a wide segment of people, the majority I would like to believe is always looking to enhance their own homes by following such blogs. All the tips and tricks, quick décor fixes, information on the new brands, product reviews, home tour, festival décor arrangements and DIY’s shared on the blog help them achieve the same.

How do you take moolah with your efforts?

Sajavat is driven, more by passion involved in the whole process of beautifying a space than making money but all said and done when we associate with brands and companies, we make sure we discuss benefits!

When I stepped in, as a new bride in my rented abode, I had only a cot to call as furniture in the bedroom. The living room was actually not really livable ?because there was nothing to sit on...then came the much fabled floor seatings that we created so that at least the occasional guests can be accommodated. Finally, we felt it was time enough to get the living room in proper shape and that's how the cane sofa set blessed our home...it was comfy, easy on the pocket and easy to maintain and also meant that I could change the arrangement as frequently I wanted to! All these images ushered in fond memories of our cane furnitures , out of which only the modas remain with us today! How do you maintain editorial objectivity with the influx of brand briefs?

It’s a tight rope walk but as long as we don’t go astray, peace is established!
