Threads.net has gone live with the countdown to the launch of the new messaging app. It would soon be available on Android, currently, iOS users have the option to pre-order it on App Store, and search Threads on Instagram for an easter egg.

Twitter rival 'Threads' by Instagram, which is a text-based conversation app, is all set to go live on July 06. It is built to facilitate conversations around topics users are interested in, along with the option to follow creators and users with shared interests and build a following.

Threads was originally launched as a camera-first messaging app, back in 2019. Threads is a dedicated private space for sharing photos, videos, messages, Stories, and more with your Instagram close friends list and communicating how you’re feeling.

The app has now been revamped and now solely focuses on the Twitter-like experience of text-based threads. This platform has been in the works for a while, and its development was first discovered by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi. He further shared that the app was codenamed Barcelona and Project 92 (P92).

According to revelations shared by him, the character limit for posts would be 500 characters, and each thread can contain a maximum of 100 posts. Instagram users would have a badge on their profile to let their followers know they're on Threads.

Behnam Rezaei, Ex-Twitter also shared a few hot takes on how he would execute the development of Threads, few of the substantial points made were a replication of the exact feature, use of Instagram & Facebook for distribution, optimization of network metrics such as creation, and follows, and the most important "no ads".

There's a rumor floating around that Threads will support the ActivityPub decentralized social networking protocol (used by Mastodon). The push towards decentralized social networking by global conglomerates like Meta would mean an aggressive push into minimally explored arenas.

Jack Dorsey, Co-Founder, Twitter took to the platform to share a closeted criticism of the data linked to the app that may be considered a privacy concern. Especially because of being a Meta-owned app, and Meta's history of sharing data amongst owned platforms.

Do you think Twitter's rival Threads will pose a serious threat to it? Let us know in the comments.
