This year, the auspicious festival of #Onam is #celebrated from 22nd of #August to 2nd #September. It is the most awaited auspicious festival for the followers of #Kollavarsham or the Solar #Malayalam Calendar. According to the tradition, Onam is celebrated at the beginning of what is known as #Chingam month, the first month in the solar Malayalam Calendar. Another significant fact about Onam is that this #festival is celebrated on four main days in which the first and most important one is the first one being celebrated on 31st August 2020. It is called #Thiruonam, which is also spelled as #Thiruvonam and the word means the “sacred Onam Day. It is a harvest festival that is observed with great fervour as it is also the biggest and most popular festival celebrated in Kerala. Legend has it that King #Mahabali visits the state every year during Onam. To welcome him, people decorate their homes with flower carpets, prepare grand feasts called Sadhya, and wear new clothes called #Onakkodi. The festivities go on for ten days, from the first day called #Atham to the tenth day called Thiruvonam in the Malayalam month of Chingam.
