Facebook Launches - Facebook Gifts, a Feature to Send Gifts via Facebook

Facebook has come out with a new unique feature to send gifts to your friends via Facebook.

You can buy real gifts for friends to celebrate birthdays, new jobs and other big moments. Just pick out the perfect gift, add your message and it’s ready to ship.

Each Facebook Gift will be wrapped in unique Facebook packaging and comes with a personalized card. Facebook can ship gifts to any street address in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii (though not to PO or APO boxes).

Facebook Gifts can only be sent to your friends who are on Facebook.

What types of gifts can I send with Facebook Gifts?

You can send a variety of gifts to your friends. Choose from items such as cookies, household goods, tshirts and posters.

How do I send a gift?

To send a gift:

• Go to a friend's timeline

• Click Gift at the top and pick out an item

• Select a card and add a personal message

• Review your order and then click Give Gift

Once you send a gift, Facebook will notify your friend and ask for their address. You can choose to pay for gifts right away, or wait until your friend enters their shipping info.

Your friend won't see the price of the gift, but they can choose a different size, color or style. They can even swap it for another similarly priced gift before it ships.

The shipping cost is determined by the price of the gift purchased. Certain items (ex: ice cream) require special handling and have additional charges.

Depending on the item, gifts can take up to two weeks for delivery. Most gifts are shipped within 24 hours and typically arrive in 3 to 5 business days.

Magazine subscriptions may take up to 8 weeks for the first issue to arrive.

Once a package is on its way, the sender will be informed with an email. Click Track Gift in the email to follow the progress of your package.

Friends enter their own shipping info and can swap for a different size, flavor or style before the gift ships. When you receive a Facebook Gift, you have the option to swap it for an item of equal or lesser value.

To do this when first previewing a gift, click Swap for a different gift in the lower-left corner. You can also swap a gift within 24 hours of entering your address:

Vendors can contact Facebook if they're interested in making your product available through Facebook Gifts.

Facebook Gifts is currently limited to people in the United States. Facebook is working on expanding this feature to more people. Once Facebook Gifts is available to you, you'll see the Gift option at the top of your friends' timelines.
