Indians don’t fall far behind when it comes to imitating things which are viral on social media. Back in 2010 it was a rip off of Football world cup anthem Waka Waka, this time it is the ALS Ice bucket challenge, which is spreading on social media like a wild fire. The name is directly inspired from its International counterpart. It’s called the RICE BUCKET CHALLENGE.
So what exactly is this Rice Bucket challenge? And who all are participating in it? Allow me to break it down for you.
What is Rice Bucket Challenge?
Taking this challenge requires one to either cook or buy one bucket of rice and give it to the needy in their locality and keeping the ritual of nominating other people intact as that of ALS Ice bucket challenge. Of course doing all this and posting on social media is part of it.
Who started it?
The million dollar question remains over who started this trend, well for many who do not know, this trend was started by a Hyderabad based journalist named Manju Latha Kalanidhi, she posted about this challenge on her facebook account and rest what happened is history and she obviously was the first person who did this challenge later challenging rest of her friends.
Who all are doing it?
Still at its nascent stage, as compared to ALS Ice bucket challenge not many Bollywood celebrities have embraced, but slowly and steadily this trend is making a wave too. Celebrities like Priyanka Chopra and few others have openly endorsed the challenge while many netizens are already posting pictures and videos of their challenge.

While this challenge is not related to any NGO where you can donate money, all you need to do is donate a bucket full of rice to the needy to make the difference. Since there is no water wasting involved here, hence flak received for this trend is none.
According to latest reports, the mastermind of this trend Manju Latha Kalanidhi is going to be honoured with an award given out by United Nations for her contributions made to society.
If you are excited to try or if you have already taken up ALS Ice bucket challenge make sure you don’t ignore this noble cause too.
