Facebook co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, will be visiting India this month for the Internet.org summit in New Delhi.
The summit, to be held on 9th & 10th October, will focus on enabling the people who don’t have access to Internet to come online as experts and industry influencers will gather and discuss core issues.
This is 2nd high profile visit from Facebook Inc, after Sheryl Sandberg, COO, visited India few weeks back. Zuckerberg will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well, just like Sheryl. The meeting will be very crucial because Mr. Modi is looking to leverage technology for India’s growth, which is very much similar to the vision of Internet.org.
It must be noted that off late, a lot of CEOs have turned their eyes towards India. Earlier this year, Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella visited India; and not to mention Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO, who was in India till few days back.
India is the 2nd largest user base for Facebook and it is predicted that it will soon surpass America to be the largest user base. In this context, this visit can have serious potential to drive the growth of Facebook in India.
