Hotstar crossed the mark of 35 million searches during April 2018 getting ahead in the race from its top competitor ‘Netflix’ with a difference of over 30 million searches, SEMRush study finds out.
The TV-Series Study in India conducted by SEMrush showcased the dominance of ‘Hotstar’ on all other online TV and entertainment platforms. The study also revealed ‘Game of Thrones’ as the TV series with the highest search volume in India marking over 600,000 searches during the year 2017-18.
Game of Thrones was followed by Stranger Things acquiring the second and 13 Reasons Why getting onto the third. The other shows included in top 10 are The Big Bang Theory, Suits, The Walking Dead, Arrow, The Flash, Lucifer, Breaking Bad and Black Mirror.
With the apt collection of video content from Cinema to Sports domain and Quality English TV series to Regional serials and shows, Hotstar has presented a perfect buffet to its viewers to feast upon.
The leading Video Streaming Platform has outrun its global peers and domestic competitors in the Indian market including Netflix, Eros Now, YuppTV, BoxTV, and others.
The search volume trends for ‘Hotstar’ exhibited that the platform gained maximum popularity in the months of June and September 2017, and breaking the records in April 2018, says the Study by SEMrush.
The US-based platform, Netflix showcases a good number of quality movies and popular shows including the Netflix Originals as well to increase Indian viewers. ‘HotStar’ having acquired the broadcasting rights of ‘Game of Thrones’ has brought the best TV shows exclusively on its platform to retain the highest views. GoT, which holds the record of the most acclaimed and popular TV show in the world in 2016, gained momentum on the Video Streaming Platform and became the TV series with most searches in India since the telecast of its 7th series in August 2017.
