Meta lays off

Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Meta is expected to reduce the team size by around 10,000 people and to close around 5,000 additional open roles that haven’t been yet hired.

Over the next couple of months, leaders from Meta will announce restructuring plans focused on flattening the organizations, cancelling lower priority projects, and reducing the hiring rates. With less hiring, the reduction of the size of the recruiting team will also follow.

Recruiting team members would know tomorrow whether they’re impacted. Meta expects to announce restructurings and layoffs in the tech groups in late April, and then the business groups in late May. In some cases, it may take until the end of the year to complete these changes.

The timelines for international teams will also look different, and local leaders will follow up with more details. Overall, the company expects to reduce the team size by around 10,000 people and to close around 5,000 additional open roles that haven’t been yet hired.

After restructuring, Meta plans to lift hiring and transfer freezes in each group. Other relevant efficiency timelines include targeting this summer to complete the analysis from hybrid work year of learning so the company can further refine the distributed work model. The company also aims to have a steady stream of developer productivity enhancements and process improvements throughout the year.

Meta claims that it is looking "to build a leaner, more technical company and improving business performance to enable the long-term vision."
