Instagram has recently announced that the platform will now allow for ads in Instagram search results via the Instagram Marketing API. These ads will be shown on the feed when users tap into a post from search results.

This new ads placement will be available on all current Marketing API versions and does not require an upgrade.

In a blog post, the platform said, “With this new addition, you will be able to update your app to enable your clients to create and preview ads in Instagram search results via API.”

This feature update will enable the following three use cases via the Marketing API.

Ads creation: Developers will be able to use ‘INSTAGRAM_SEARCH’ as one of the placement options when creating ads.

Ads insights: When breaking down insights by placement level, it will be possible to see how ads perform via search results placement.

Ad preview: They will also be able to fetch the preview in the ‘INSTAGRAM_SEARCH_CHAIN’ format

This new placement seems to be an attempt to increase Meta’s revenue after a struggle with weak advertising demand. Following the declining ad sales for three consecutive quarters, the company has observed a revenue increase of 3% year on year in its first Quarter of 2023.
