Meta is securing user data by adding end-to-end encryption in messages after multiple requests by users.

Meta put out a blog post on Tuesday announcing the development. Meta has been focusing on better encryption to secure privacy for users. This feature would protect sensitive data between its owner and the user they are communicating with. This would also protect the data from third parties and potential hackers.

"Starting today, millions more people’s chats on Messenger will be upgraded to stronger encryption standards as part of our ongoing end-to-end encryption (E2EE) testing. We remain on track to launch default E2EE for one-to-one friends and family chats on Messenger by the end of the year. And as we increase the scale of testing, we wanted to provide an update on how we’ve approached this large and complex engineering challenge." , the blog said.

The blog said they have been testing for stronger end-to-end encryption standards for one-to-one family and friends chats. This feature would roll out by the end of the year.

Messenger users can already encrypt messages but it isn't on by default. Meta began testing for turning it on by default since August. Demand for better encryption in personal messages has increased a lot as users are very insistent on better security.

Messenger is also planning on adding some aesthetic updates such as new themes and colors for specific chats.
