Chrome's text to speech feature

Chrome is rolling out a feature available for select users on Canary that will read articles out loud with its new text to speech feature.

Chrome is currently testing text-to-speech in articles for desktop. The feature will be working like audio books and will be available on reading mode version of articles. This feature is exclusively available on Google Canary for select users right now and was located by a user Leopeva64, who also shared video sample of this feature being used.

Canary is the Alpha version of Google and is used to test all the updates Chrome is testing or rolling out on a small user base.

The voice is expected to be robotic and monotonous. As of now, the feature won't allow users to alter playback speed, regional languages other than English, move ahead in an article, or natural-sounding audio options all of which are available on Microsoft Edge.

Google seems to be only testing this out and is in the fundamental stage, they will probably add to the current version and roll out updates later down the line. Google has also added a translation feature on Gmail recently, which aids in translating mails into regional languages in the app itself.
