X Cuts Subscription Prices in India

Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has significantly reduced subscription prices for users in India, with cuts of up to 48% across its Basic, Premium and Premium Plus tiers.

The Premium monthly subscription for mobile users has been lowered from ₹900 to ₹470, while the web version now costs ₹427, down from ₹650, a 34% decrease. The Basic tier also saw a price reduction, with monthly charges now set at ₹170, down from ₹243.75. Annual billing for Basic users dropped from ₹2,590.48 to ₹1,700.

The adjustments reflect platform owner Elon Musk’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and user engagement in one of the platform’s largest growth markets. Differences in pricing between mobile and web subscriptions are attributed to platform commission structures.

Premium subscribers receive additional features such as the blue verification checkmark and access to longer posts and exclusive tools. Basic account holders can edit posts, write longer content, and play videos in the background, but do not receive verification.

The Premium Plus tier also experienced significant reductions. Web subscriptions have been cut by 26 per cent to ₹2,570 per month, from the previous ₹3,470. On mobile, the cost has dropped from ₹5,100 to ₹3,000.

Premium Plus offers an ad-free experience, the ability to publish full-length articles, and access to SuperGrok, the platform’s AI assistant powered by Grok 4.

The move is seen as part of a broader trend of tech platforms adjusting pricing strategies for emerging markets. With growing mobile and internet penetration across India, such measures are aimed at expanding user bases and increasing platform engagement.
