ICC reveals Facebook & Instagram plans for World Twenty20

16 men’s and 10 women’s cricket teams will face each other to determine who will be crowned the world champions of twenty over cricket. The sixth edition of the ICC World Twenty20 is expected to be the biggest and most exciting tournament in the event’s history with teams competing across 8 cities in India, culminating with the Women’s and Men’s final on April 3rd at the iconic Eden Garden’s Stadium in Kolkata.

You can stay close to the action by liking the International Cricket Council on Facebook, following @ICC on Instagram, and connecting with the teams, players, publishers and fellow fans on both platforms.

Show your Game Face

For the first time during a World Cup of any sport, fans of all 16 teams across both the women’s and men’s events can add temporary profile picture frames to show support for their favorite teams. Fans can visit their favorite teams’ Pages to discover the frames.

LIVE from the WT20

Facebook Live will enable fans to get closer to the game than they ever have and enjoy live videos of over 50 post-match press conferences in real-time from the stadium as well as match analysis, reviews, behind the scenes action, player Q&As and more.

Users can follow the International Cricket Council, participating teams including India, Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka, player Pages, and the publishers and commentators for live video coverage of the event.

Celebrate with Stickers

In celebration of cricket, Facebook launched a new sticker pack, Cricket Match-up, featuring popular match moments such as umpire calls, player celebrations, catches and LBWs . The stickers allow fans to express themselves before, during, and after matches. The sticker pack is now available for download in the Sticker Store, which can be accessed in the Messenger app or by clicking here.

Experience matches in real-time & let your friends know you’re watching!

Fans around the world can join the conversation on Facebook through dedicated prompts in the composer section of their profile.

They can also tap on posts with the watching tag for all matches to be directed to a Trending WT20 page, where users will:

  • See up-to-the-minute match scores
  • See posts from their friends and people they follow in Friends and Groups
  • View real-time reactions, photos and videos from news outlets, public figures and people around the world

On Instagram, the ICC and teams have been sharing warm-up match footage and behind-the-scenes content, including Hamilton Masakadza’s (Zimbabwe) pitchside post during a match versus Ireland, Afghanistan fans cheering for their team in a match versus the Netherlands andChris Gayle (West Indies) training in Dubai.

This tournament, the cricketing world will be introduced to 60 #WT20SuperHeroes! The ICC has created exclusive player imagery for some of the top cricketers in the world for their official Instagram account.

Players have also been taking to Instagram in the build-up to the tournament to share their anticipations and excitement with fans:
