Globally recognized make-up school and cosmetics brand, Make-up Designory (MUD) has collaborated with fashion photographer Rohan Shrestha and his School of Photography to launch a digital drive that celebrates the trials and triumphs of female professionals across genres in India.
The first leg of the campaign features influencers, such as top fashion blogger and style icon Kayaan Contractor; model and designer Gabriella Demetriades; celebrity fitness and yoga trainer Anshuka Parwani; popular pole artist who introduced the craft to India, Aarifa Bhinderwala; motivational speaker and yogini, Natasha Noel; and brand ambassador for Zumba (dance fitness programme) in India, Sucheta Pal; each of whom have trodden an unconventional road to success.
A statement makeup brand from the hub of Hollywood, Los Angeles, the campaign is a play on the term MUD and the bold call-out ‘You’ve got MUD on your face’. A passion project for the master behind-the-lens, the shoot was conducted under the creative direction of Rohan Shrestha himself, assisted by young students from the Rohan Shrestha School Of Photography (RSSP). The women were ‘dolled-up’, so to speak; depicting the desire to break away from social conformity, societal expectations and stereotypical gender roles.
Building on its community of professionals in India and brand supporters, Make-up Designory (MUD) collaborated with International hair and makeup artist, Marianna Mukuchyan, whose extensive body of work includes Bollywood films and fashion weeks, aside from several international projects. Mukuchyan created the looks assisted by Saba Khan and other members of the MUD Crew, with styling by Chandni Sareen, who has worked on shoots for popular magazines (Vogue India, Cosmopolitan India, Harper’s Bazaar India, etc.) and brands locally and internationally.
Anshuka Parwani, said, “This has been the quirkiest shoot I have ever done, it is completely out of my comfort zone, but I am so happy that I did it and I did it especially because of the great team behind MUD and of course Rohan Shrestha.” The doyens were dressed in designer wear, such as Papa Don’t Preach, Falguni and Shane Peacock and high street brands like Zara and Madison; with accessories from Outhouse, Valliyan, and more.
Sucheta Pal, congratulated Make-up Designory on establishing MUD Studio Mumbai, in partnership with Leap India Institute. Having quit a corporate job to pursue a career in Zumba, she said, “I am very excited about this, since it is a vocational career choice, and India is finally opening up to alternate careers. I wish MUD all the very best.”
At present, MUD has launched its Beginner’s modules (Beauty Essentials, Airbrush, High Fashion Makeup, etc.) and short workshops, alongside collaborations with niche personalities in the hair and beauty space from India and overseas. Its team of educators, MUD Crew, are industry professionals with over five years experience in film and fashion, who have undergone comprehensive training, mentored by top international faculty that visit the studio from time to time.
Students have an opportunity to pursue their passion in a cutting edge environment that has been precisely tailored to global specifications. Each classroom provides facilities for a dynamic learning experience; from comfortably furnished work stations with professional fixtures and mirrors, maintenance of optimum lighting to facilitate the process and favourable temperatures to avoid the melting and smudging of makeup, to high-resolution screens for the display of course material and more.
