Indian General Elections are ongoing and are about decide the fate of the largest democracy of the world; brands use the current state of affairs to an optimum level with General Elections 2019 brand campaigns.

Acknowledging the magnitude of this national event, brands are emerging with campaigns that are subjected around the theme. Explaining, educating and informing their viewers about this occurence.

The Elections are a hot topic on Social Media too. Twitter recorded 45.6 million Tweets related to the Lok Sabha Elections from 11th March 2019, the day elections were announced, until 11th April 2019. Campaigns, manifestos, and announcements around policies and key social issues have been accounted for.

Elections campaigns this year predominantly are urging viewers to vote, and millennials and the youth has been the primary target.

Samsonite used an instance, many of us would be familiar with; migrating to another city for professional reasons and having to travel back to cast a vote.

Speaking about the campaign Bodh Deb, Vice President & Branch Head, Autumn Grey shared, “As we were brainstorming on finding a real insight for the election campaign, we realized that none of us had the moral high ground to speak on the subject. Most of us have migrated to another city for work years back and had never made an effort to go back home to cast our vote. Instantly we knew that we have hit upon an insight that will strike a chord with millions like us and thus came up with the campaign.”

Talking about BookMyShow's campaign urging viewers to vote - #ChooseWisely, Marzdi Kalianiwala, Head - Marketing and Business Intelligence, BookMyShow states, "The campaign #ChooseWisely is a natural extension of our primary appeal to people to step out of their homes. With the General Election upon us, we want people to step out of their homes yet again, but this time to use their power to vote responsibly and choose their government representatives, wisely.

Instamojo's campaign is purposed towards encouraging MSMEs of the country along with their right to exercise a vote. Sampad Swain, CEO & Co-founder, Instamojo shares, "We want MSME players and small business owners to voice out their top priorities from the government for next 5 years. The next 5 years will be crucial for the sector as digital disruption will continue to take place and government will have a pivotal role in enabling and empowering them.”

Comedy Central depicts a humorous take on losing the power to make choices. Commenting on the campaign, Ferzad Palia, Head – Youth, Music & English Entertainment, Viacom18, said, "Comedy Central adopted an approach that’s synonymous with its spirit to evangelize the importance of each vote. Driving the message through cleverly curated videos with a comic narrative yet an underlining powerful call to action, we hope to influence every citizen to go out and exercise their right to vote.”
