Fanta Rebranding

The new logo aims to inspire people to find the fun in life and make the plain playful, with a look that remains unmistakably Fanta.

With legacy brands like Pepsi and Campa Cola changing logos right in the heat of summer, Fanta has also rebranded itself with a new global identity, creating a unified global branding for the first time since its inception.

Partnering with the creative agency Jones Knowles Ritchie, the new logo aims to ‘inspire people to find the fun in life and make the plain playful, with a look that remains unmistakably Fanta’, according to a press release.

The brand has let go of the orange and the leaf from its background, leaning into the blue of the previous logo with a bolder, striking tone. The negation of the orange background is to show that the drink has flavours beyond orange, across the globe.

In the press release, Sue Murphy, Senior Director of Design at The Coca-Cola Company said, "Fanta’s identity, and particularly the logo, has evolved significantly from the 1940s to today. With this refresh, we aimed to crystalize each element of the brand to be bold and iconic so that we could ensure it would stand the test of time and be recognised around the world."

We take a look at the evolution of Fanta logos.

1940-1962

The brand debuted with an all-black font in lowercase with a curved ‘f’ to resemble a handwritten script on a blank canvas.

With an added blue colour to the background, the text lost the black and got replaced with white.

This was the first time the logo got an element of fun and playfulness with orange dots, representing oranges, placed above the ‘n’.

Apart from the bold font and shape of the text, the orange dots turned into an abstract spot.

The background of the logo disappeared here, and it received a three-dimensional effect.

The text in this version of the logo was kept completely within the large orange, resembling the sun.
