Somasree Bose Awasthi has stepped down from her position as Chief Marketing Officer at Marico Limited, marking the end of a nearly three-year tenure that began in November 2022. During her time at Marico, she was responsible for leading brand strategy, marketing initiatives, and innovation across the company’s portfolio.
Before joining Marico, Awasthi spent more than 15 years at Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL), where she held various leadership roles in marketing and sales. She began her career at GCPL in 2003 as a management trainee and rose to become Chief Marketing Officer for India in 2021.
At GCPL, Awasthi was involved in the launch and scale-up of Godrej Aer in the air freshener category. She also contributed to the growth of the household insecticide brand HIT. Additionally, she worked on the revival of soap brands such as Cinthol and Godrej No.1, and led initial efforts in building the company’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) strategy.

Earlier in her career, she became the first woman to serve as an Area Sales Manager in the FMCG sector in Eastern India. An alumna of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), she holds an MBA in Marketing and Human Resources and graduated as a gold medallist.
