Whom do we cater to?
Sports in India is growing at a tremendous pace in last few years. Many sports have grown in India and many new leagues have been introduced. We are targeting all sports fans in India who follow Football, Cricket and Tennis.
What do we offer to our consumers?
We help sports fans connect with each other. No one likes watching sports alone. So our app fills in for that need of a sports fan. We also have a unique Live match prediction game that makes sports fans enjoy matches more and compete with other sports fans.
What motivated us to start up?
The biggest inspiration was observing how technology is helping like minded people connect with each other. Tinder and many such tech platforms allow people to connect. So we thought we can also make a sports platform where fans following a team or player can connect with other similar fans. Sports is a great way for people to connect.
What’s in a name?
All sports or fans platform are named either starting Sports or Fan, e.g Sportsconnect, Fanmode etc. We didn’t want to be lost in that list. So we were looking for a unique name. We figured that “root” is also a word used around us to mention “support”. And we came across the word, Rooter, which literally means a sports fan. Rooter also allows us a unique advantage of using it as a noun- rooter, verb- root, rooted etc. The name has similar advantage as Twitter where you also tweet.

We are a strong 12 member team spread across tech and content specializations. Our user base is around 25000.
Our biggest challenge was..
We came up with the idea of connecting sports fans. But the biggest challenge was to find ways to connect them. We needed an idea or engagement technique to engage sports fan. And that was made possible by Live match prediction game. Our Live match game is one of its kind in the world. We are pioneering the Live match gaming.
The next challenge was coming up with a superior technology as we were creating a unique platform for the first time in the world.
We want to dominate the world by..
We want Rooter to become the most important tech platform for sports fans. They can connect with other fans, follow matches with Live scores, commentary and stats, take quizzes and later also meet fans offline at a pub/ bar nearby.
We’re making moolah by…
Currently we are only opening up our platform for brands to advertise and connect with sports fans at individual levels. Sports brands and F&B brands can use Rooter to target their consumers who follow sports basis their engagement on app and location. For e.g. Adidas which sponsors Man Utd can advertise on Rooter during a Man Utd Live match game and connect with thousands of fans. They can also offer special deal to Man Utd fans when they are near an Adidas store.
The revenue from consumer will be initiated post IPL after we have build a substantial base and have created the new category of Live match gaming. We will introduce a Freemium model where users can play for free or can pay a marginal monthly fees to avail benefits from brands, win prizes and also get opportunity to attend offline Rooter events.
Our What The **** Moment
We have a feature called Live match forum where sports fans can interact and root for their team during all Live games on Rooter. A lot of times we see regular users handling queries from new users in that forum. They themselves play the role of admin and help us by talking about how app works and prize structure etc. This conversation sometimes becomes very funny but gives us immense satisfaction that we are creating a lot of loyal users who have become our ambassadors.
Industry as we foresee
The future of social media industry is technology making similar people connect with each other. Currently its happening through apps, but very soon we will see technology like sensors or some new feature that will automatically help people come together. Social media is always going to be a part of our life- the delivery and ways of connecting people will change with time.
