Who are we?
We’re a Pune-based start-up with a young and passionate team on board specialising in making creative digital content. Co-founded by Anikait Chavan and Kunal Roy in 2014, we started off along with a group of friends in college. We used to have meetings at McDonald’s every week to plan out our activities. Then there were some who left and some who stayed back. Today we have a team of 6 full-time people on board and an official address.
What’s in the name?
Campus Times started off as a college-centric blog called Campus Times Pune which provided college relevant news and started the Honest College Review series. Our team was really diverse and we had a few members on board that were inclined towards filmmaking and had completed filmmaking courses. Then there were some with experience and knowledge of the Digital Marketing world. This then drove us to start off another venture called Campus Times Media where we could channel all this knowledge and energy into helping brands come up with creative content and help them make a presence online. We stuck with the name Campus Times since it always had a young and energetic vibe to it wanting to showcase to the people that we are new-age thinkers and ideators! It’s all about branding and image and SMM agencies are all about that.

Why we do it?
Right from the very start before our agency even came into being, we always were surrounded with mentors and people who were in the industry for years. We had long conversations with them about this field, heard about all the good and the bad that there is and during those conversations, we realised that we could contribute to this domain in our own way. We had the ideas, all we needed to do was execute them. Video was something which was new to the market and it was meant to stay for years as an interesting & creative medium of communication. So we planned to make it a reason for our bread and butter too.
We believe evolving in this industry is important. But what’s more important is that we evolve in the right direction. This would only be possible by having the right influencers in your life who you know will always provide you with the right information & guidance whenever needed. Keeping up with the recent trends is easier now because of all the content on the internet. But keeping a check on your knowledge sources we think is a must to evolve. The industry is growing so fast and we are still keeping up with the trends. Things you do to keep up and evolve.
Social responsibility in social media
Transparency is probably one of the best aspects of today’s world. From an agency point of view, this helps us be up to date and helps us share relevant content with our audience. At the same time we must also keep in mind that for every content that you put out there, there will always be some who agree and some who don’t. I think it is then our social responsibility to respect each other’s point of view and not turn hostile to criticism. This would only help us broaden our perspective on our audience and know them better.
Need of the hour
The need of the hour would definitely be, and I’m sure a lot might agree with us here, stopping the spread of fake news. It is of utmost importance that as agencies we keep a check on our sources and always confirm things before sharing on social media. Fake news as we all know has the potential to incite a lot of negativity in our society and we must take care of keeping some kinds of checks in place to know for sure what is fake and what’s not.

We learned the hard way
Always take the majority of your payments in advance. Unless you have 100% trust and confidence on your client and you have established a certain kind of relationship with them. This has harmed us before, big time and is a lesson we carry with us wherever we go. No hard feelings about this. It’s just the way it is. Another thing that we’ve learned the hard way is to stay relevant and focused when it comes to your services. A lot of agencies tend to offer everything because they think can by hiring people of the required skill sets. We have learned that unless you’re willing to improve yourself in a particular domain on a day to day basis, you should not offer it and pollute the market for those who are willing to.

This industry has been following trends since ever. One trick or gimmick used by a brand and everyone will follow the bandwagon. But eventually, it is growing

Where would people watch videos without internet? A day without internet is a hole in the pocket for us.
