Instagram is testing a new feature, Stories About You, that will help users better manage mentions in stories, helping brands and influencers keep track of conversations around them.
Spotted by Technology blogger Jane Manchun Wong, Instagram Stories About You will list mentions in a separate tab for easy access. Here, users will be able to look at all their mentions at a glance instead of looking through DMs and notifications. The segregation will help them get a better understanding of conversations around them.
Roughly half a billion users put up a story on Instagram on a daily basis. Given the popularity of Instagram Stories, enhancing the Stories ABout You mentions feature is an expected move as the platform is trying to make the user interface better, adding value to the application for brands, influencers and users.
In terms of the functionality of the Stories About You feature, it will help brands get a better in-depth understanding of the frequency of mentions as well as what works and what doesn’t. It will help them produce better content and target potential customers better.
For influencers, this feature will be a boon for they will be able to better manage their mentions and even take a screenshot to augment the conversations around their content. One possible way to put it to use will be while announcing giveaways and other interactive competition results.
Recently, Join Chat Stickers were introduced on Instagram Stories, helping users create small groups for focussed conversations. Using these stickers, brands, influencers, as well as users who have private profiles, could pick and choose a set of people who have shown interest in the topic to take the conversation further in a comparatively closed space.
