Being recognised as a comedian on Musical.ly motivated Kanka Das to create funny videos as an influencer and not just as a fun activity.
Acknowledging the importance of comic relief, Kanka Das ensures that her content is fun and engaging. She believes comedy helps people relax and forget the many stresses they undergo on a regular basis. She tells us about her content creation process.
Looking back, where did it all begin?
During a random scroll through Instagram, I came across content created on an app called Musical.ly (now TikTok). It all started from there.
What’s in the name?
Variety. When people hear my name, the first thing that comes to their mind is variety. I have never restricted myself to any one genre of a video. I love experimenting and try to make different kinds of videos.
What is your USP in this cluttered space? How does your content give you an edge?
Most of my videos are based on comedy and people love watching comedy videos because they want to relax, be entertained. They want to escape from reality and the stresses of their routine life. I also make glitch videos that create an illusion in people’s minds, leading them to watch it again and again, wondering how it was created.
Please take us through your content creation process. How do you stay relevant and relatable?
Keep it real and straight to the point. I always choose content that people can easily relate to.
How do you make moolah with your efforts?
I am a full-time influencer and I earn from brand tie-ups, sponsorships and collaborations.
How do you maintain editorial objectivity with the influx of brand briefs?
It’s not possible all the time. Sometimes, you have to deal with the brand because that’s where you make the moolah from. However, I do avoid fake product advertising. I don’t misguide my followers.
One instance/experience that made it all worthwhile
I used to create comedy videos on Musical.ly just for fun. One day something unexpected happened. I got a badge that identified me as a Comedian. It motivated me to work harder.
Weirdest brand brief/request ever
None that I can recall.
If not blogging, you would be?
I am not a blogger, I am a video content creator. If not this, I would have probably been a YouTuber.
