Woodford Reserve keeps up the spirits for Kentucky Derby

Woodford Reserve Kentucky Derby

With the Kentucky Derby getting postponed to September amidst the pandemic, Woodford Reserve pays tribute with a soulful rendition.

Set at a vacant Churchill Downs, where Derby 146 was scheduled to run in the first week of May, My Old Kentucky Home is a music video released by Woodford Reserve. It features Kentucky Cellist Ben Sollee playing solo in the Derby Winner’s Circle.

The Kentucky Derby has been postponed for just the second time in its 146-year history — the first being in 1945 when World War II pushed the race from May to early June.

The brand has attempted to keep the tradition and pageantry of Kentucky Derby alive amidst the pandemic woes. The imagery of the iconic Twin Spires — along with vacant stands, track and starting gate — have been magnified to deliver an uplifting, optimistic musical note while looking ahead to brighter days and to the September 5th running of Derby.

“Now more than ever, we need to be connected to each other,” Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Chris Morris said. “This beautiful rendition of My Old Kentucky Home keeps the tradition and pageantry of the Kentucky Derby alive during these hard times.”

In addition to the music video, the brand, with Churchill Downs, offered Kentucky Derby at Home celebrations on their social media platforms. On Live, they demonstrated cocktail and mocktail recipes as well hosted a taste and toast sessions for fans, on the day the race would usually begin. The brand has also shared Kentucky-inspired recipes as social media posts.
