Netflix enters top three media distributors as TV share hits 8.3%: Report

YouTube continued to hold the top position among media distributors with Disney at second in TV viewership according to the Nielsen's TV viewership rankings in June 2025.

According to Nielsen’s The Gauge and Media Distributor Gauge report for June 2025, Netflix's share of total television viewing reached 8.3%, marking its highest share since January 2025. This represents an increase of 0.8 percentage points from May, placing the streaming platform among the top three media distributors in terms of TV share for the first time.

Streaming content overall saw a 5% rise in time spent compared to May. Its viewership rose by 13.5% during this period. The growth has been attributed to the platform’s release schedule in June and increased viewing from school-aged audiences (6-7 years old) during the summer break.

YouTube continued to hold its position among media distributors for the fifth month in a row, accounting for 12.8% of television usage- its highest share to date. The platform’s viewership increased by 6% from May. Its lead over second-ranked Disney widened to 2.8 percentage points, also its largest lead to date.

Disney remained at the second spot, with a 10.0% share of TV usage. ABC affiliates under Disney contributed as well, airing the top 33 broadcast telecasts of the month. These included coverage of the NBA Finals and 'ABC World News Tonight'.

NBCUniversal (NBCU) ranked fourth, accounting for 7.8% of total TV usage. Within NBCU’s offerings, 'Love Island USA' streamed on Peacock accounted for 4.4 billion viewing minutes in June, contributing to a 13.4% increase in Peacock’s viewership from May. NBC affiliates remained the largest contributors to NBCU's overall performance. Despite the growth in viewing time, NBCU’s total share decreased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous month.

The reported data covers the period from May 26, 2025, to June 29, 2025, in accordance with Nielsen’s broadcast calendar, which measures weeks from Monday through Sunday.
