Snapchat has officially rolled out Snappables, a string of new Lenses for sharing experiences and playing augmented reality games with your friends after it was reported to be in the works earlier this month.
Snappables can be controlled through touch, motion and even facial expressions. An interactive Lens format, it allows Snapchatters to share experiences and play together in AR, anytime, anywhere.
These experiences will live right in Snapchat’s Lens Carousel, but this time to the left side of the circular capture button. (World and face Lenses today are to the right.)
To get started, just tap on a Lens icon and then follow the on-screen directions.
Some Snappables invite you to jump into another world together and then invite your friends to join in.
“Ever wonder what it would be like if you and your friends started a rock band or a dance party in the middle of the day? Now you’ll know ;)” says the company in a release that announced the official rollout for Snappables.
Social Samosa reported the rumours surrounding Snappables earlier this month after an eagle eyed code spotted the code for it. The feature had also been handed out to some premium Snapchat celebrity users for testing and it seems the company is satisfied with the product.
Some more game-like Snappables are said to be available that are activated by facial expressions and movements like fighting aliens or pumping iron at the gym which you can share with your friends.
Being termed as just the 'very beginning' of a new type of AR experience on Snapchat according to the company who also said that this is the first time Lenses have transformed into a shared AR experience on the platform.
The feature will begin rolling out to Snapchatters globally this week on iOS and Android and they will start appearing in the carousel dynamically, just like other Lenses today.
