  • Indian Social Media
  • Know Your Leader
Aug 14, 2019

Piyush Goyal mostly uses his social media profiles to talk about the Indian Railways and set a feel-good feeling for the national transporter.

Piyush Goyal — Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry

Social Media Footprint

Number of Wi-Fi enabled railway stations jumped to 2,360 as on 7th August 2019.

The latest additions – Banspani in Odisha, Akona in Uttar Pradesh, Thirumayilai in Tamil Nadu & Pamidi in Andhra Pradesh are among several other stations in the country to get fast & free Wi-Fi. pic.twitter.com/SejwJvVAyk

— Piyush Goyal (@PiyushGoyal) August 8, 2019

Goyal is extremely active on all social media platforms. He extensively shares visual updates regarding the milestones of the Ministry of Railways. He uses all possible channels to put across his point. This includes a vibrant website, an active Quora feed and daily updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Almost all his speeches and public appearances are broadcasted on YouTube and Facebook. Though the page is not active since 2017, there is good documentation done by him on Medium. His Linkedin page is outdated but helps in being present on the platform and redirect people to his website for updates.

Sharing a slice of work

Posted by Piyush Goyal on Thursday, 8 August 2019

A bulk of Goyal’s communication deals with his work and interest in the railways. By sharing positive stories about the railways, he appreciates the hard work of the humongous team he represents and encourages the bureaucracy to keep running effectively. He often retweets the works of his colleagues and tweets by the various railway zones in the country. News pieces, both textual and visual are extensively shared. He uses his reach to amplify the good work done by the railways. International meetings and events too find a significant space in his communication. Goyal’s Instagram profile exudes a feeling of a railfan’s page.

Compared to the Railways, Commerce & Industry find less mention on his profiles. People often tag him to file complaints, which are dealt with by relevant railway handles. An important part of the images shared by him are ones that feature local representatives who meet him to discuss grievances about railway operations. Goyal is almost always enthusiastically smiling in all public images featuring him.
