Comedy campaigns India

Advertising witnesses a new trend with every passing moment; over the months it has been raining Comedy Campaigns in the ad world and we aren't surprised.

It’s a business of attention and what better than comedy to do that. It is the one genre that always comes with a happy ending. One can not imagine a single human on the planet who dislikes humor.  Of lately the ad world has also been getting inclined towards the genre and the artists who effortlessly do the act of making people smile through their on-point comic timing and humorous talks.

Mid Day in its recent campaign latched onto the increased popularity of stand up comedy. The print daily roped in Jamie Lever to mimic famous Bollywood actresses like Kangana Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and also her father, the star comedian, Johnny Lever.

The wave of stand up comedy back home was brought in by ace comedians with the likes of Tanmay Bhat, Biswa, Kannan Gill, Sahil Shah, and more and their skills have made them prominent faces in the marketing world.

The last few years have seen the rise of stand-up comedians as artists, online content creators, and influencers - celebrity influencers that not only attract the millennial but also a large chunk of audience across age groups. This has given rise to the trend of brands roping in celebrity comedians either for their stand-up format or as a part of a script.

‘Glamour’ that various celebrity led endorsements would bring to the table is a much-exploited tactic. Now marketers are only on a lookout to present something ‘new’ to their consumers and these comedians being the social media influencers they are, have been successful in achieving the same.

In the initial years brand took the star route even for comedy. Tata Docomo roped in Ranbir Kapoor for their campaign, Keep It Simple, Silly.

Comedy campaigns in India have come a long way since then. Be it Taco Bell’s stint with Tanmay Bhatt or Pay U’s #BeLazy with Cyrus, these ads have raked in huge eyeballs while subtly integrating the brand communication.

Take a look at comedy campaigns India over the years, to understand how this communication strategy has evolved.
