Instagram yesterday announced that they would be showing previews of IGTV on the main feed. Previously, Instagram launched a feature letting users share a preview of their videos on their IG Story.
An Instagram representative told Variety that “With IGTV previews in Feed, we’re making it even easier to discover and watch the latest video content from your favorite follows”.
Casual notifications, IGTV videos in the Explore tab, a bar notifying about an IGTV video above stories on the feed, all of Instagram’s recent efforts are directed to boost IGTV’s growth.
Additionally, in a recent blogpost, Adam Mosseri announced that Instagram would moderate graphic content pertaining to self-harm. Instagram has collaborated with the Centre for Mental Health and Save.org for a comprehensive review of such content as users revolving around may be invulnerable state and shouldn’t feel isolated.
As mentioned in the blog, “During the comprehensive reviews, the experts, including the Centre for Mental Health and Save.org reaffirmed that creating safe spaces for young people to talk about their experiences – including self-harm – online, is essential. They advised that sharing this type of content often helps people connect with support and resources that can save lives.”
Instagram will not allow any images such as cutting, on the platform, any non-graphic content like healed scars would not be recommended in hashtags or Explore but wouldn’t be removed. Instagram would also be directing users posting and searching such content to organizations that can help. They would also continue to consult experts on this subject.
