Spark AR effects on Instagram can now be created and published by anyone, as their public beta on Instagram kicks off.
Facebook’s Spark AR platform has moved out of the closed beta phase and now you can join the Spark AR Community Facebook Group by visiting this site and downloading Spark AR Studio.
The platform has also introduced ‘Effect Gallery’, which includes AR Effects by up & coming creators. To discover and try on new effects yourself, click “Browse Effects” at the end of your effects tray in the Instagram Camera.
AR lets artists, creators, and designers make custom effects, which you can use to add interactive and dynamic layers to your Stories.
The creator community
The community has creators ranging from a graphic designer or advertising student to one with decades of experience.
Luke Hurd, a creator of the community shares, “It’s on devices that everyone can use, doesn’t require headsets, and it has built-in shareability.”
He adds, “Be a good steward to the technology and understand that you’re carrying this thing to the future of society”.
Chris Higa mentions that he drives inspiration from trending & topical moments like the recent Area 51 movement.
The community also looks forward to branding collaborations with brand-specific or product-specific AR Effects.
Higa states, “My goal is to give companies an advantage by allowing their users to engage with their products in new and interesting ways”.
The platform claims over 500 million users use Instagram Stories every day and more than 1 billion people have already used AR effects and filters powered by Spark AR on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Portal.
It would be interesting to see how brand collaborations with AR Effects churn out and if we would see a more innovative phase of social media marketing.
