In a surprising turn of events, MX Player has used creatives that are strikingly similar to or rather blatantly copied from work done by leading brands such as Spotify India, Chaibuoy, Durex, and Zomato.
These include, Durex’s Aashiqui 2 post on the anniversary of #Section377 decriminalization, Zomato’s Bhartiya Janta Party creative, and Spotify India’s post asking users to share a song that makes them cry every time.
As of now, the brand hasn’t given any credit to the original posts or initiated any conversations with the brands that executed these posts in the first place. Users too have noticed the pattern and have been commenting on MX Player’s social media handles with #IdeaChor.
Social Samosa reached out to MX Player for a comment; however, there was no response till the time of filing this report.
In a time when the ad and marketing worlds are attempting to battle evils such as plagiarism, this move by MX Player proves to be a setback not just for the brand but the entire industry.
