With a week to go for the Super Bowl to begin this year, ad spots are doing rounds online, generating buzz. Interestingly, most of the participating brands have stayed away from talking about COVID-19 and its impact in a direct way. One prominent brand that has broken this pattern is Bud Light Seltzer Lemonade. They have invoked memories of the various ways in which lives were disrupted by the virus in 2020, metaphorically linking the year to one filled with lemons, to promote their lemonade offerings.
While some of the brands have only released the teasers yet, some are using social media to build up the momentum, like Doritos and their #FlatMatthew campaign. Cheetos is also using several spots to release their campaign in a phased manner, keeping up with the suspense at the end of each ad.
