Instagram Video Chat

Instagram Video Chat now lets you chat with up to 6 people at once in Instagram Direct.

Back in June, Instagram launched the Video Chat in DM feature connecting the users with their friends and family through real-time video. With the recent update, Instagram Video Chat feature is supported for group calling where up to six people can join a single call.

Now, you can connect with even more of your friends. Up to 6 people can video chat in Instagram Direct. Learn more here: https://t.co/FexaCdjcNF pic.twitter.com/JFZEVLVSE1

The feature is easy to use and has been launched with the cons weighed too, like enabling users to block or mute an account if one does not wish to video chat with them.

How do I use video chat on Instagram?

If you don’t have access to video chat in Instagram, update your app to the latest version in the App Store or Google Play Store.
You can video chat with up to 6 people using Direct Messaging.

To use video chat on Instagram:

  1. Tap  in the top right of the feed.
  2. Tap a username or group name to open the conversation. You can also start a new conversation by tapping  in the top right and selecting people you want to video chat with.
  3. Tap  in the top right. The person or group you call will receive a notification that you’re video calling them.

Instagram has been working on introducing new features like tapping through stories, enabling third-party authentication, testing continuous stories, launching name tags and more.

These efforts have been insinuating that the platform is trying to make the user-experience smoother and better, following Adam Mosseri’s appointment as Head in the course of never-ending competition in the social media race.

The new feature is not ingenious, at least no more than what meets the eye. However, it would be easier for family or friends staying apart to have a conversation conveniently together.
